Acne Treatments

It is estimated that at least 90% of people will have acne at some stage in their lives which can vary from small spots to large fiery red bumps usually on the face, but also commonly on the back, chest, bum, shoulders and neck.

Although acne is most often associated with teenagers it is can also be common in adults. Traditional treatments have a variety of side effects and sometimes require months to work, if they work at all!

Topical creams and lotions have been known to cause redness and irritation. Oral antibiotics can cause stomach upset, light sensitivity and yeast infections in women, and recent studies indicate about 40% of skin bacteria have become resistant to antibiotics.

Medical practitioners are becoming increasingly supportive of the benefits of Intense Pulsed Light in the fight against breakouts. Advances in this technology such as Multi Pulsed Light known as MPL which is simultaneously combined with Radio frequency have been proven to successfully treat acne and other skin conditions without adverse side effects.

What causes acne?

There are three contributing factors to acne:

1. The over production of oil

2. The irregular shedding of dead skin cells and

3. The build-up of bacteria.

How can acne be treated?

Here at Imani Skin clinic we use Multi pulse light technology alongside Radio frequency to target and treat acne. Our advanced light and heat based system can target porphyrins in the skin which kills the bacteria that causes acne whilst shrinking the inflamed sebaceous glands. At the same time the radio frequency gently heats the skin around the acne stimulating collagen production & helping to reduce the overproduction of oil. This combined technology helps to clear & rejuvenate the skin.

We also have facials and skin peels to treat breakouts and oily skin or microdermabrasion and skin micro-needling to help with scarring left by acne. We can also combine treatments and tailor make them to suit your needs and budget which can be discussed in the consultation.

The treatment is non-invasive so there is NO recovery period after treatment. Normal activities may resume immediately after the acne treatment.

Depending on the severity of the acne further treatments may be required and a maintenance programme employed to control the activity of the sebaceous glands and the bacteria responsible for causing the acne. Good homecare, diet and lifestyle also play an important role.

How many treatments are recommended?

For best results, we would suggest having a treatment once a week for four weeks or in some cases once every 2 weeks depending on your skin’s condition. Clients usually see significant improvement after 4 to 6 treatments. The skin should continue to improve after the course of treatments have finished. Following this, it is envisaged that further maintenance treatments may be required at six monthly intervals.

Are there any secondary effects?

IPL (or the more advanced MPL® that we use) can cause some slight brief pinprick sensations. In certain cases there may be redness in the treated area, slight swelling or goose bumps. These effects will disappear several hours after the treatment.

We have treated many women, young and old, with acne, and we offer privacy and discretion, so please do not be worried about your skin concerns, as we are here to help improve that condition, which is very common.

How much does it cost?

Prices start from £35 per session depending on the size of the area.

Discounts available for students.
