Why use electrolysis?

Electrolysis is suitable for all skin types and ideal for people wanting to remove grey, white and blonde hairs which cannot effectively be treated by light based treatments due to the lack of pigment.

How does electrolysis work?

Electrolysis is the removal of hairs one by one from any area of the body. A sterile needle is inserted into the hair follicle and the root of the hair is hit with a tiny pulse of electricity which is delivered through the very fine needle. A current is applied to kill off the blood supply to weaken and eliminate the hair, this pulse destroys the follicle root and prevents the hair from growing back. Once the hair has been zapped, it is carefully removed using tweezers.

What’s the difference between electrolysis and MPL® for hair removal?

Electrolysis treats each hair follicle individually with a needle; it can treat all skin types and all hair colours. The downside to electrolysis is that it can take a long time to treat an area, and it can become uncomfortable for the client. MPL® can treat a larger area very quickly by comparison and is more comfortable than electrolysis. However MPL® cannot treat white, grey or very blond hair.

Which areas can be treated with electrolysis?

Virtually any area can be treated, apart from the inside of the nose and inner ear, although it is not really suitable for large areas as each hair is treated individually, therefore smaller areas such as the upper lip/chin, fingers etc. are treated more efficiently as larger areas can be more time consuming.

Does it hurt?

The sensation is similar to that of plucking the hair. However it varies according to where the hairs are located, and how they have previously been removed. Remember the settings can be adjusted to make the treatment more tolerable.

How many treatments do I need?

Due to each hair being in various stages of growth many treatments may be needed for each area to catch them in the right times in the cycle. It is also a lengthy process so repeated sessions are more practical. Each client is different and everyone has hair of varying degrees of density: some have lots of hair packed into a small area and others have less hair which is more spaced out; cause of hair growth and previous hair removal methods are also a factor so there are no generalisations in relation to the number of treatments required.  This can all be discussed in the consultation.

Electrolysis can also be used to treat thread veins especially for small areas such as sides of the nose etc. Using a sterile needle with short wave diathermy (heat).

How much does it cost?

Prices start from £35 per session depending on the size of the area.
