How does Micro-needling work?
Micro-needling is a procedure that uses fine needles to puncture tiny holes into the surface of the skin to create a controlled skin injury. This triggers the skins natural repair process producing elastin and collagen which in turn rejuvenates the skin. It’s also known as skin needling, derma roller, collagen induction therapy (CIT), and percutaneous collagen induction (PCI).
What does the treatment involve?
Skin is cleansed and prepped and a topical anaesthetic is applied to numb the skin making the procedure comfortable; it will normally take up to 30 minutes for the topical anaesthetic to work and a further 20 – 30 minutes for the Micro-needling treatment. The Micro-needling device is rolled over the area to produce thousands of micro-needle columns in the skin. the skin is then cleansed and a serum and spf is applied.
Are there any secondary effects?
The skin can be quite red straight after treatment but this will start to subside as the columns will close rapidly enabling the skin to recover quickly – often in the same day.
